Environmental Services operates as an enterprise fund which provides solid waste services to businesses and residents of the community. The ESB receives routine updates regarding business and operations, as well as future outreach opportunities.
1. Environmental Services is soliciting proposals to perform a Food Waste Composting Feasibility Study and Design Services. Environmental Services is in the process of selecting a contractor.
2. The Eco Station transfer station ventilation system is inadequately sized and a design for an upgraded system was completed in FY19. The construction of the ventilation system is currently underway.
3. Currently working on Household Hazardous Waste site improvements.
4. As part of America Recycle’s Day, the County in collaboration with Los Alamos Public Schools hosted a virtual Recycle Art Fair & Fashion. There was excellent participation from the community.
5. Recycle Coach was launched December 2019. Staff is currently promoting Recycle Coach to increase participation. There are 605 mobile users.
6. The yard trimming program participation rate is 69% or 4,726 households. Approximately, 918 tons of yard trimmings have been collected in 2020.
7. Friedman Recycling will conduct a recycle audit on December 2, 2020.
