Environmental Services operates as an enterprise fund which provides solid waste services to businesses and residents of the community. The ESB receives routine updates regarding business and operations, as well as future outreach opportunities.
1. Environmental Services solicited proposals to perform a Food Waste Composting Feasibility Study and Design Services. Environmental Services has selected a consultant and is in the process of drafting the contract.

2. The Eco Station transfer station ventilation system construction project was completed. Five fans were replaced with adequately sized fans that promote better air quality and visibility.

3. Currently working on Household Hazardous Waste site improvements.

4. The yard trimming program participation rate is 69% or 4,726 households. Approximately, 1,100.89 tons of yard trimmings were collected in 2020.

5. Friedman Recycling has postponed the recycle audit originally scheduled for December 2, 2020 due to reduced staffing levels.

6. There was a fire incident at the Eco Station on Thanksgiving Eve involving a transport trailer. LAFD responded quickly and doused the trailer and mitigated the fire. The following morning LAFD and ES staff investigated the event. Although the origin could not be determined with 100% certainty, the suspected cause of the incident was hot ash from a fireplace. ES staff have published press releases and info graphics to bring awareness to the fire danger of hot ash as well as lithium ion batteries.

7. Recycle Coach was launched December 2019 and has been live for one year. Staff is currently promoting Recycle Coach to increase participation. There are 629 mobile users, 5,918 web users, 67 communication users, and 504 calendar users for a grand total of 7,118 users. There have been 113,168 interactions with the recycle coach tool.
