Environmental Services operates as an enterprise fund which provides solid waste services to businesses and residents of the community. The ESB receives routine updates regarding business and operations, as well as future outreach opportunities.
1. Environmental Services solicited proposals to perform a Food Waste Composting Feasibility Study and Design Services. Environmental Services has selected a consultant and is in the process of drafting the contractual agreement.
2. Environmental Sustainability has one vacancy and has been recruiting for a new member. Currently, two applications have been received, and interviews are underway.
3. Environmental Services submitted the fourth quarter 2020 Landfill Methane Probes Report. The Los Alamos Closed Landfill Quarter 4 methane report is compliant with NMED Solid Waste Rules and Regulations. All gas probes monitored were below the regulatory 5% methane level; and no methane concentrations exceeded the 25% lower explosive limit (LEL) in building and/or structures.
4. Developed site plan to revamp the Household Hazardous waste area.
5. LA County and PEEC staff are developing educational materials for the backyard composting project. The plan is to distribute the backyard composting tumblers during spring 2021 using a drive through approach.
6. The yard trimming program participation rate is 69% or 4,738 households based on 6,850 households. Approximately, 579.92 tons of yard trimmings have been collected in FY21.
7. Currently working on development of FY22 budget.
