May is National Bike Month

…Body

With spring in the air, Los Alamos County and the League of American Bicyclists, a national organization of bicyclists, announce that May is National Bike Month, May 17-23 is Bike to Work Week with Bike to Work Day celebrated on Friday, May 21st. According to the League, 40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to get around.  The County urges everyone to bike to work or try cycling for fun, fitness, or transportation.

Established in 1956 and celebrated in communities from coast to coast, National Bike Month is a celebration of biking as transportation, as recreation, as essential to our well-being and everyday lives.  It also provides an opportunity to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.

Bicycling is on the rise, with growing support in all sectors, but you still need to be ready to make a strong pitch for traveling on two wheels. Bike Month is the perfect time to share and celebrate the many benefits of bicycling.
