Karen Wray Gallery Request - “Golf Course” by Secundino Sandoval

Body

Karen Wray contacted Katherine Hudspeth to inquire about the possible purchase of the watercolor painting entitled “Golf Course”, painted in 2012 and has been in the gallery for several years. The painting in 20.5” h x 28.5” w, includes the frame and matting. The Karen Wray Gallery has the piece listed for $2,400 + tax. This painting depicts two golfers on the golf course with the Pajarito Mountain ski hill in the background.

The artist, Secundino Sandoval is a local Los Alamos artist, who just celebrated his 88th birthday. Mr. Sandoval is a well-known and beloved painter whose works are owned by many local collectors and individuals throughout the country. He studied painting under Randall Davey and oils under Leslie Burtenshaw. Secundino’s artistic talents emerged early in his life. His passion for painting and his independence was clear from the start as one of his early grade school teachers told him in kindergarten that he was ready to defend his rights to his own crayons with a punch if necessary. Mr. Sandoval attended the University of New Mexico and received a BA from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. He was a technical illustrator for the US Army Aggressor Center and in 1952 went to work for the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a full-time draftsman and designer. He worked at the lab for 15 years before he left to become a full time artist. He has won many awards to his works.
