Member Cutting-Smith are the leads for this project. APP conducted a survey of where the public would like to see public art displayed, and there was a significant amount that identified North Mesa and the North Mesa Stables. Member Cutting-Smith are to develop a plan on how to move forward for a new location and new art.
At the Feb. 2021 meeting former Member Carson stated that he did drive around North Mesa and identified 2 possible locations: Soccer Fields or Baseball Fields. Member Cutting-Smith also stated that she drove around North Mesa and noticed that there is no Shade Structures in that area, and felt that maybe that could be an idea. Member Cutting-Smith has put together A Google earth Project to show potential locations of art on North Mesa along with ideas.
· Idea #1: the electrical boxes located along San Ildefonso Rd. Commission individual artists to decorate the boxes, with an artist’s vinyl wrap. Additional research was done by Member Carson. The life expectancy of the vinyl wraps are no more than 7 years, if taken extremely well taken care of. Given that APP items need to have a 20 year life span, this idea was abandoned.
· Idea #2: North Mesa Dog Park - No concrete idea and idea was not discussed at May 2021 meeting.
· Idea #3: North Mesa Soccer Field - No concrete idea, but maybe something interactive. Members Theophan and Cutting-Smith did look the potential space and Katherine provided utility information for the location. Member Baker would like to inquire Eric Thelander again about a potential art piece. There are some items to consider about this space. Per Member Cutting-Smith at the July meeting, Eric Thelander was not interested in doing a piece for the APP; sited that he was busy with another project.
· Parking is a premium when this space is used.
· App Board may want to consider talking to the space user groups as to what may be useful/beneficial or detrimental to the area.
