The Sunflower donation, restoration and installation was approved by County Council on Sept. 29th, and the Formal Donation Acceptance form was completed Oct. 21, 2020. Sunflower is in possession of Los Alamos County, and Katherine is working with Steve Huebner and Procurement to establish an RFP for the work needed to be done. On April 2nd, Katherine met with Steve Huebner and now has the draft RFP in her possession. Edits will be made to align with the scope of the project and will then be sent to procurement for review, and then to legal. As of June 7th, the RFP for the Sunflower project is ready to be advertised, however Public Works would like to wait a month so that this project can be assigned to Steve’s replacement. Therefore, this project is on hold until around July 7th. Steve’s replacement, Sarah, started with the County in late September, Katherine will be working with her to get the project resumed.
Katherine met with the new Project Manager, Sara Rhoton. They are in agreement that the RFP is close to being complete. When the RFP is sent out, it will run for a month, and a member of the board will need to participate in the evaluation committee. At the Nov. 2021 APP board meeting, Katherine Hudspeth updated the board that additional details were added to the RFP and should be making its way to Procurement for review and release.
Public Work changed direction, and believes the work can be done by an On Call Contractor that Los Alamos County already has an agreement with. The Architect took a look at the piece during the week of Jan. 24th, and as of Feb. 7th, Public Works had a quote totaling $44,200 to complete the Sunflower Project, and were proceeding in moving forward with task orders.
At the March 2022 meeting Sara Rhoton presented to the APP Board that the Sunflower, with its current state, is not safe to put up on the side of a building, and provided multiple logical reasoning. She suggested a new location, closer to the ...
